Our First Camping Trip

This past weekend, Josh and I went on our first camping trip. We've been planning it for about a month with some good friends of ours. I've never been the outdoorsy kind of girl, but it was definitely an enjoyable trip. Living in Florida, camping in the summer is definitely not even a thought due to the summer heat. We had great weather this past weekend other than on Friday night. It rained from about 7:00pm to 3:00am.

It was nice to be able to get away for the weekend and bring Ellie with us. She enjoyed herself and loved the tent. She loved being able to run around outside and roll in the grass whenever she wanted. She loves the outdoors!

Josh kept the fire going and was in charge of making coffee each morning in the percolator.

Our men took care of us for the weekend, especially in the food department. They did all the cooking over the fire. I guess it helps that we married Boy Scouts because they knew what they were doing unlike us girls. Friday morning breakfast was cooked by Christina and me. We thought we would take the easy way out and have the just add water, shake, and pour pancakes. What we thought was a great idea turned out to be a disaster. The pancakes were too runny. We figured it would be a good idea and put all the batter in a pot and cook one huge pancake. Yep, that was a fail too! The pancakes turned out to be the consistency of play doh. We had another light bulb and tried to patty them out into pancakes and cook them in the skillet. Another idea, FAILED!

We decided the venture out on Saturday morning for a walk on the nature trail. What was suppose to be about an hour getaway admiring God's creation turned into a three hour hike, getting off path and lost. It would be an understatement to say we were not the slightest bit worried especially since none of us brought our cell phones on the walk with us. We learned our lesson to always stay on the path or make our on trail out of the woods if we decide to "try" to take a shortcut.

One of my favorite parts of the trip, was our afternoon nap and having "down time". Josh and I do not get a whole lot of down time and when we do it's always spent doing something other than relaxing. It was nice to be able to nap and do absolutely nothing at all after our trail adventure. Ellie even asked for a nap while we all played a round of yahtzee which is one of my favorite games.

Breakfast Saturday morning was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Jeremy made use a gourmet breakfast of pancakes (WAY better than ours and some of the best I've ever had), hash browns, and sausage and cheese eggs. I'm not an egg eater, but these were AMAZING! I've been wanting some since.

It felt so good to spend some time in the outdoors and be able to marvel of God's creation. From the different sounds and pitches of the birds to the beauty of his creation, it was a much needed time away to get some fresh air. It was a refreshing time spent with friends and "The Birthday Boy" (aka: Husband).
